Tone Uriza Brings Boondock Lounge to the VirtualHighway

Submitted by Marianna Monentes

Big Daddy Tone Uriza took a cruise recently on the Virtual Highway, and hasn't been the same since. You see, he couldn't stop thinking about that low ride down the highway with blues reverberating off the sides of the canyon as he made his way around Breakers Point.

It made him yearn to bring his Boondocks Lounge to a little town when you first enter the Virtual Highway, called “Welcome”. He thought it would be a great location to set down his roots, and we agree.

Tone will be appearing at Boondocks Lounge -March 23, 2012- 2 PM PST. And you are all invited!! Take a moment if you will to welcome Tone Uriza to the Virtual Highway.

Digital Art and Art Animation

Submitted by Roving Reporter Revy

Hey not sure if this is of interest to anyone, but right now DAZ3D is giving away Hexagon, Daz3d Studio Pro (Yes the actual Pro Version) and Bryce for FREE! Yes free really means FREE you will not even need a credit card, voucher or Pay Pal. You get some really really nice software that retails for $800 completely free.

Why get this? Well it is a lot easier to use than Blender with a more polished interface. Blender has announced an end to collada support, so you can model in Hexagon use the bridge to Daz Studio and export to collada.

Daz3d is kinda like Poser and actually has tons of support for Second Life (SL) and tutorials for $50 you can get the TC2 converter to move your V4, Victoria and Michael avatar models to SL.

NO I DON'T WORK for DAZ but I will give you the link http://www.daz3d.com/i/0/0?
I love ya all Revy

(Editor's note:  DAZ (Digital Art Zone) Explore page states,"We're all about helping others create better art and animation faster through the power of 3D. This ranges from book illustrations or humorous videos to scrap-booking or web graphics; or virtually any creative project you would like to do. With the help of DAZ products, you are the creative director. You have total control over exactly how your illustrations and animations will be created."  Check out the short video on the Explore page and see what you can create)

InWorldz Update: "Where your dreams are our Vision"

Back in December of 2010, SurfWatch reported on InWorldz, a new virtual environment (http://surfwatch.blogspot.com/search?q=Inworldz).  Currently up to 52,000 users and 877 regions as of this posting, InWorldz invites you to, "Stretch your imagination, can you build the next newest in thing? Or will you travel the world in a spaceship while being an alien? Maybe you'll club hop, be a model, join the tinies... your imagination is the only limit!"

I stopped in to see if surfing had hit the scene yet and what kind of beaches the combers could expect to find.  I was pleasantly surprised to find Tai Chi @ Phantom Mists Serenity Beach.  Tai Chi advertises, "Relaxing tai chi on the beach at Dragon Heart. Beautiful, meditative music and great endless ocean and waves. You can do tai chi, yoga or meditate! There's even a place to read."  I found a small section of beach with the sounds of waves and seagulls and non-surfable white froth, in addition to the tai chi, yoga and meditation opportunities.  Over a hill sits a beautiful lagoon and waterfall area.

I did find Surf City and Sunrize Mall altho I didn't spot any surfable waves.  There's also The Hula Shop at Sweet Dreams that sells flip flops, bikinis and boardie shorts if you need your fix of beach wear.

Searching the grid for waves, I found 3D Ocean Waves by Lie rang of MnM Designs.  Calling them, "Photorealistic foams with realistic movements" and "Best natural movements even seen on any OpenSim Grid !", waves can be purchased at Wild Spirit Sandbox.

SurfWatch will keep you posted on any additional surfing and beach information from InWorldz!

SLSA on Facebook

submitted by Kantbe Thursday @kantbethursday

As part of the Second Life™ Surfing Association's efforts to get the word out about surfing in SL™ and to help keep us informed about activities, the SLSA's Board of Directors have created an SLSA presence on Facebook .

This was actually proposed by Mick Lunasea when he was on the SLSA Board of Directors in 2009.  There wasn't a consensus among the board members at the time (including from this writer) and the idea was dropped.  However, after subsequent work over the course of several months with the leaders of Linden Labs community development effort, a few things not already in place were implemented.  A Facebook presence and adding surfing videos to the SLSA's web site were two of those additions.

Facebook won't replace what takes place on the SLSA Forum, but will supplement it and the SLSA website for announcements, important notices, and general information.

The SLSA is also now using Twitter.  If you'd like to watch for SLSA related tweets, you can follow Salsa Waverider @SalsaWaverider and the SLSA SpokesDog Surf Rang @SurfRang.

Breakers Cove, VirtualHighway

Submitted by Marianna Monentes

The drive down to Breakers Cove is narrow at first the highway twists its way along the jagged ocean cliffs of Breakers Point. VirtualHighway leads us to a translucent little azure bay just yearning for the breaking tide we hope will soon come.

Tiffany Magic and logger Sewell co-owners carved this gorgeous paradise out of their awesome new grid called VirtualHighway. Their hope is to some day bring surfing to all of you.

There is yet so much to do to bring surfing to VirtualHighway, it will take all of you, the surfers that know what it means to follow that endless highway to your endless summer...VirtualHighway is in need of all the creators that make surfing happen. The possibilities are endless as this world is just now being carved out of the metaverse, we can make it incredible...with your help.
