Never has Second Life had so many major surfing competitions on the same weekend! This Saturday and Sunday will see three surfing competition events take place: VSA Surf Jam 7 on Saturday, the Surf City Open on Sunday and the third state of the Brazilian Surf Circuit over Saturday and Sunday! Surf Jam 7
The monthly Vibrations Surf Alliance (VSA) Surf Jam 7 takes place 11am SLT Saturday 13 September 2008 on Majini Island, in the Bishara Resorts group of sims. Past Jams have been won by ONeil Auer, Pova Rustamova, Colleen Brennan and twice by Buffy Monro. Last month's Surf Jam saw Colleen Brennan take first place, followed closely by trhe Tsunami Surf Team's Crusader Arado and Reef Rider new-comer Bonheur Chanaux. This Saturday's event is really wide open, with a strong line-up of surfers expected to take part.
Surf City Open
Surf City hosts its second major surfing contest of the year this weekend at Surf City South beach on Sunday 14 September 2008 starting at 11am. The competition takes place on a double pipleline break and board-choice is wide open. Surf City local rockytheskaterboy Dreadlow won the Surf City Classic at Surf City in July, with Mick Lunasea coming in second and Bobbi Laval in third. SurfWatch also hears that there are plans to hold the Surf City Open quarterly. Organisers have already announced the heat draws for this weekend's event.
ABSSL Surf Circuit
The Brazilian Second Life Surfing Association (ABSSL) will hold the third event in its 2008 surfing event circuit on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September at Crab Island. This will also be the first surfing competition to ever take place on HP Surfs new Sunset wave, the Teahuppoo wave's larger successor. July's event was won by Ammie Graves, with Paulinho Stoop and Guiloan Graves falling into second and third place respectively. However, Paulinho leads the Brazilian Surf Circuit table and will be looking to consolidate his lead, whilst second ranked Ammie will be hoping to knock him out of the top-spot.
