Down Memory Wave...

This is a tale about a plant...
There's also a tail on the dog but let's start with the plant that came first.
The plant was a gift to a certain someone in Second Life (SL).  However, the plant required actual in-world care and this person's social and surfing calendar made it very difficult.  So care of the plant was passed to Tauri Tigerpaw who set it out at the house.  Tauri missed many an event and competition dedicating her SL to care of the plant (the infamous, "I have to go take care of the plant" excuse that is still in use today).  Eventually, care was given to the entire SOS (Sisterhood of the Sand) group.  And then came Bandit, and the watering of the plant was left to him who diligently watered it daily, depending on how much water he drank.

Be the first to name the owner of this plant (pictured here at Mori at a Bandit and the SOS plant Reunion) in the comments section and win 250L!!!

Tauri's Tidbits and Sticky Situations #4

We were recently having a convo about Second Life (SL) situations and talking about SL etiquette - is there such a thing? You know, the kinds of things you run into in SL and are not sure of the proper way to handle. We'll be periodically posting these dilemmas and looking for genuinely constuctive feedback on your opinion. If you have a comment or a dilemma of your own, let us know and we'll add it to the list!

Is it okay if your friend asks you specifically about your hair, your eyes, your skin, your shape and shows up the next day as the spitting image of you?

SLSA Announces Clarification of Sim Funding

The Second Life Surfing Association (SLSA) has posted a "clarification" of SLSA funding and the funding of the Archipelago sim.  In essence, the SLSA will be separating costs "required for the primary mission and activities of the SLSA" from funding required for the Archipelago sim tiers (25,000L).  The Board states they will "try to achieve the goal of funding the monthly sim tier from sources other than the competition budget."  The Board will contribute a limit of 5000L of SLSA general funds towards the cost of the sim tiers if other funding activity for the sim falls short by the 16th of each month (tier due date); however, if the shortfall exceeds 5000L, the SLSA will release Archipelago.  The avatar, Salsa Waverider, is the account created to hold Archipelago specific funds.

SLSA makes Salsa

Add a lil hairball, a purr or two and some spices and what do you  get?  The Second Life Surfing Association's (SLSA) newest mascot, tasked with managing the funds for the SLSA sim, Salsa Waverider!   Can't tell if  Surf Rang is looking for chips or has an allergy to cats!

SLSA Announces Venue Change for Saturday Comp!

The Second Life Surfing Association (SLSA) has announced the location of the SLSA Surf Shop 6 Longboard Invitational scheduled for Saturday, September 18, 2010, is moved from Monkey Cove to Mori Pwani in honor and recognition of, "what Mori has meant to so many surfers and in memory of all of those wonderful surfing locations that have gone."  Same time, same wave, same board, new location!

Fairwell Mori Pwani

submitted by Bandit

I was sad to hear that one of my favorite beach hangouts was closing down. Mori Pwani was a wonderful place to make friends, enjoy a beautiful beach, and catch a wave or two.
So many good times with great folks, building relationships with people and creating some fond memories along the way.
Thank you for the memories I will treasure forever. Though Mori Pwani beach may wash back into the ocean from where it once came, the wonderful people that left a footprint in Mori's sand will always be near and dear to my heart.
Licks on the noses to Lissa (Lissa Pinion) and VW (VW Sands),
Thank you for creating a spirit of good will in the surfing community for so many, may that contiue forever...

ASA Under New Leadership

submitted by Colleen Brennan

Founding league director, Desne Aabye, has stepped down from the Australian Surfing Association (ASA) Director post and a new leader was announced to the group:

The Rayzzzzaaaa is taking over as Director of ASA and SL surfing will never be the same again!!!!

Goodonya Rayz :))))

Desne deserves great credit for her hard work in establishing the ASA as a fun organization to surf in. We are sure the new Director, Rayzza Rubble (second- cousin-twice-removed to Barney) is the man with the plan and the fun will continue down under for some time to come. Rayzza comments, "She'll be apples". Thank you Desne and best of luck Rayz, we are all rooting for you.

From Grandma's Kitchen

I was asked to share some of my delicious recipies with the kids on the beach, so have at it:

Granny's Glazed Apples

Preheat the oven to 375.  Peel and core 4 Granny Smith apples.  This is the hardest part of the recipie - I like to eat a few cupcakes before doing this and turn on some Led Zepplin.  You can use one of those single coring dohickeys but peeling an apple is still a pain in the backside.  Horizontally slice each apple into about 5 slices, but keep them in apple shape, this is not a game of Jenga.  Sit in a baking dish - not you, the apples -  and pour a mixture of about a cup of no-sugar-added apple juice and 2 plops of melted butter over the top.  Bake about 45 minutes but pour the juice over the baking apples about every 15 minutes or so and pour the cooking sherry into your mouth about every 10.

While the apples are baking, heat 1 cup sugar and 1/3 cup water in a medium heat skillet and don't stir!  You can use a wooden spoon or wet pastry brush to keep brushing the crystals from the sides of the pan as it heats up.  After 15 minutes, remove from the burner and let it sit about a minute, then carefully add 1 plop of butter and stir until the butter melts.  Gradually add 1/2 cup fat-free evaporated milk and keep stirring (it's a good arm workout), cooking over medium heat 2 minutes or until the caramel melts and the concoction is smooth.  Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla after you remove it from the heat.

After the apples cook and you take them out of the oven, pour this caramel goo in the center of the apple stack, letting it fill up and pour over the sides.  If you have leftover caramel, you can pour  it over anything.  Duke and I used to experiment with creative uses of caramel...oh, for the good ole days!

That's it from Grandma's Kitchen for now!  I'm cranking up the Led Zepplin and cleaning up my mess.  If you like my recipies, leave a comment and I'll leave you some more!
