Virtual Highway was a virtual world similar to Second Life that started back in 2009 created by Tiffany Magic and logger Sewell. Around that time, Marianna Monentes, AKA Mari Softly, was instrumental in bringing surfing to that world, finding the creator, Kayaker Magic, to design a board to surf in OpenSim and holding the Waves of Courage competition. Although Virtual Highway is closing down, creating the Virtual Highway Surfing Association demonstrated that virtual surfing is possible in many worlds.
