Upcoming SLSA Director Election

Four times a year, the SLSA goes through a process of electing members to Director positions. This coming June 1st, an election is scheduled to fill three (3) open seats. Each seat will hold office for the following six (6) months.

Section 2.2 “SLSA Director Eligibility” of the Constitution defines the requirements to be eligible to run and goes into more detail than presented here. The requirements are basically anyone who is eligible to vote in general elections (more below) with a few exceptions. These exceptions include:
  • the Board cannot have more than two (2) representatives from the same surf team, the same surf product vendor company, or the same sim owners,
  • members who are not eligible to vote may petition the board to be able to run.
All candidates need to apply in writing to all members of the current board of directors not more than 21 days and no fewer than 14 days prior to election. The applications must be in the form of a notecard to each director and must state their willingness and ability to serve their full 6 month term and also state any team, product, or Sim affiliations.

SLSA Constitution section 2.1 covers voter eligibility. It’s basically any member who has competed and was assigned a score in at least one of the SLSA sanctioned competitions prior to the election date; a member who served as an appointed officer or director in at least one of the previous three (3) sanctioned SLSA competitions; or, is a member of the SLSA Hall of Fame.

It’s important to note that according to Section 2.3.1.5 of the Constitution, if there are not enough eligible candidates to fill the open seats, ALL EVENTS shall be SUSPENDED until a new election with enough candidates to fill the open seats can be scheduled.
