SurfWatch 2 Year Anniversary Second Life Photo Contest Winners!

Bobbi Laval and her guest judges did an amazing job of organizing the SurfWatch 2 Year Anniversary Celebration Second Life (SL) Photo Art Contest, and SurfWatch is proud to honor the top 3 winners of that event:

1st Place:  Sol's Morning, by Sunshine Zhangsun

Judges Coments about Sol's Morning:

I chose Sol's as first place because you can actually feel the temperature; the head-on shot of him coming out of the wave, going low and his expression (anxious); the balance from the bottom to the top. The avoiding of cliches like shooting the tube, riding the curl, the arms out and legs bent -- avoided all that stuff. You can feel the motion too, so Sol takes it hands down.

My favorite picture is the one of the guy paddling out, Sol's Morning. I like how this picture conveys the creativity of the photographer without a lot of flash. I'm a firm believer in the KISS (keep it simple, stupid.. LOL) principle. The use of windlight is wonderful, and the mood of the photograph is very relaxing. You can feel the subject's connection with nature.

I liked Sol's, very nice play with color and lite. Unusual for a surf pic in that the subject is paddling and not surfing, but the power of the water was captured so well.

2nd Place:  Fun Times on the Water, by WickedV Carver

Judges Comments about "Fun Times on the Water" :

I thought the stylized rendering of fun times was brave, and the emotions were plain to see. The angle of the two were terrific, and I like the man about ready to wipe out, too high in the curl. The colors were pretty wild too.

I so much like the colors and playfullness of the picture. Very creative use of windlight, stylized almost just like a poster.

3rd Place:  Sunset at Cornish, by Maxwell Silvansky

Comments about "Sunset at Cornish" :

A lovely sunset with waves rolling in and palms. I love a good landscape photo and this one has all of the visual elements. The windlight and solar reflections are wonderful. The use of the rule of thirds is spot on in this picture. I feel tranquil just looking at it.

Sunset was a cliches for sure with it's use of the light and sun on the water, but it was so well done, and the colors caught were just too good to ignore

It was simple, well "framed" conveyed the mood perfectly and left the surfers out; focusing on more of the end of a beautiful day surfing rather than the surfing itself.
