Mari's Mailbag - Dissolved Friendships

Going to address something that has happened to all of us at one time or another. Have you been close with a fellow surfer, both of you competing, and then have a falling out? Chances are you both still want to compete but find it awkward because of previous arguments? How do you move past that hurt and continue to focus on surfing? The answer is simple. You just have to continue to do what you love doing. You will find you will continue to be supported, and your love of surfing will overcome the pain you felt. New joys will enter your life and that relationship could blossom once more with laughter that you find when you are with friends of the same mindset. Surfing has always been a comfort to me when things seemed pretty bleak. I would jump on my board and all the negative thoughts would vanish. Holding grudges, demeaning one's character, is wasted energy, energy that can be focused on the more positive and fun things like surfing.
