Benefit held to aid Mojo Manamiko

On Sunday, August 23, 2009, a live music concert by Zaphod Theas and a silent auction by Kimmy Jigsaw were held to benefit Mojo Manamiko and his family who suffered a fire on their property that also damaged their home beyond repair. They had no insurance coverage at the time. Many members of the surf community donated art, surfboards, beach huts, clothing, custom furniture, shopping sprees, services, and many other items, to lend aid and support to Manamiko and his family, raising over 20,000L in that effort. Items that are still available will be added to the benefit the SLSA is putting together on Manamiko's behalf. Bonheur Chenaux, SLSA director, stated, "The SLSA wants to help in any way we can. We are planning a benefit to help raise funds for Mojo and his family. It will be a day of coming together and lending a hand. We'll have more details soon."

When asked for comment, Mojo stated, "Every so often in life, we are reminded that compassion and love are essential to survival. Not only for the recipient, but to the giver as well. Bonds are re-established and fortified and faith is restored. I have been overwhelmed at the love shown me and more proudly, that it was from our SL family. I thank you for your support and compassion. I will never forget what I have experienced here in SL with you. Thank you all so much."
