The Big Blue: Surfer’s Bay VIP Opens New Surf Sim

A new surf sim has just been created as part of the Surfer’s Bay VIP estates. Along with the main Surfer’s Bay VIP full sim, the estate also hosts ‘Surfer’s Eden’ and now - ‘Surfer’s Blue’. Developed with surfing very much in mind, Surfer’s Blue has a wide expanse of open water and an exhilarating mix of Maoli and Marina Bay waves.

“We are hosting more parties and large events than ever before,” said Duncan Blackburn, owner of Surfer’s Bay VIP estates. “But this can often mean we have to derezz the surf waves on main sim, which isn’t fair on those that surf in our group of over 6,600 members. The addition of this new sim means that hardcore surfers can enjoy the peace and quiet of the waves at all times – yet still be close to the main beach when they want to be social.”

With around 85% of the total sim given over to the surf waves, Second Life (SL) surfers can enjoy a wild and long ride before chilling out on the small tropical island or taking a seat overlooking the wave breaks on the main Surfer’s Bay VIP sim. The waves are Tahiti Break (Maoli) and ‘Camel’ and ‘Pipe’ from The Marina Bay Shop. “We let a few of our members that surf have early access to the new sim before we opened so that they could test the wave combination, wave run and overall atmosphere – and they all got off their boards smiling, which I think is a good sign!” says Duncan, laughing.

For Persia Bravin (Duncan’s partner and the landscaper behind Surfer’s Blue), designing this new sim was the chance to revisit one of her previous sim builds called ‘Indigo’. “My old surf sim, Indigo, was much loved by a small group of SL surfers that enjoyed the tranquillity, wide open sea and densely planted shoreline,” she explains. “A big part of me – creatively – has always wanted to recreate the chilled out, slightly bohemian vibe that Indigo had, but with the added dash of ‘RL Bali’ that Surfer’s Bay VIP is known for. I think a lot of people will recognize certain Indigo elements on Surfer’s Blue.”

Visitors to the main Surfer’s Bay VIP sim can cam across to watch the surf action or take the TP board over to the small island, and surfers can either rezz a board on the main sim and paddle across the sim line via the rock formations – or take the TP to Surfer’s Blue. Access to all sims is by group membership to the ‘Surfer’s Bay VIP’ group which costs L$500 and members can rezz boards anywhere and set the sims as home.

“What I most love about Surfer’s Bay VIP is not the sims or events – but our community and the people in it,” says Persia, “and Surfer’s Blue will hopefully give our members more opportunity for peaceful, uninterrupted surfing. We have lots of members that regularly take to our waves plus many more members start SL surfing with us each week – especially female avis that seem to enjoy the security and support network of other female surfers here – and I can’t wait to see them out on the new waves at Surfer’s Blue too.”
