SLSA Director Removal Petition and Forum Response

Some of you may have heard there has been a petition filed by several members with the Second Life Surfing Association Board of Directors for their removal from office.  Below is the content of that petition, followed by a response posted in the SLSA Forum which states such a petition is not legal.

The Petition

[I] am calling for the immediate removal of and to retract their current bid for reelection of the current Board of Director membership consisting of:

Mick Lunasea
Annie Panties
Kei Raven
Petra Xaris
Moira

I will no longer support the incompetence of the said board members, will not surf any future competitions, donate monetarily, as long as they have a position now and within the future of the SLSA. I will no longer support them being staffed as members at any SLSA sanctioned surfing event. They have been negligent in how they use their power and position in that:

1. Could not fully staff a seasoned event with proper judges and chose to violate the rules of the Constitution.

2. Sim Officer not fulfilling duties that has placed Solace Dreams in jeopardy. Not keeping up with current rentals and on time payments, failure to fill vacant hut rentals, and not producing fund raising events when necessary to maintain Sim payment.

3. Communications officer not keeping the community properly informed of competitions dates and/or changes.

4. A director closing an account of an established community member when no verbal consent was given to authorize such a critical move.

5. Not appropriating the Advisor board on said Constitutional Rule: 1.5.7.1 be consulted by the board on matters of policy and constitutional rulings.

6. A Director verbally telling the membership at a sanctioned SLSA event to refrain from using gestures. This being a long-time tradition within the SLSA.

These recent actions performed by the Current Board of Directors has displayed negligence on their behalf, within a community on which they serve. For it’s the membership that they provide their services. I hereby declare they abide to the petition.

Forum Response from Sally LaSalle:

Currently there is a petition circulating that calls for the current board of directors to stand down over a number of alleged mistakes that occurred over the recent term of the board.

There is no provision in the SLSA constitution for any such action.

Why????

Because a special and permanent 'safety valve' is already built into the SLSA constitution to handle this. It's called an election and they are held every 3 months.

I am frankly flabbergasted in the extreme, that any member would have the ironic gaul to call for dismissal of a board of directors because "they ran a competition without the required number of (voluntary) staff"'.
The blindingly obvious solution to which would be for that member to actually volunteer !!!

I am also frankly flabbergasted that people would sign this petition stating their 'credentials' including various roles they may (or may not have) carried out successfully themselves, implying that they have the imprimatur to call in to question 5 volunteers on the board, many of whom have served the SLSA for longer than all the petitioners put together.

The final and most laughable irony of all is that the petition calling for the board to stand down was sent at the exact same time that a regularly scheduled election was set to run, at which none of the petitioners bothered to nominate.

Let's get real, if you have any issue other than a personal gripe with a member of the board you know what to do.

Stand for election yourself, and let the membership decide!!

I absolutely agree with Sally. You think a petition is the answer? Run fir a director spot, be the change you want to see.
