Director Candidate: SyntheticCynthia Zunimoor

SurfWatch is conducting interviews with the September 1, 2009, Director nominees to provide voters with an in-depth look at their candidates. Following is SurfWatch’s interview with prospective Director, SyntheticCynthia Zunimoor.

SW: You are not currently ranked for last season's SLSA surf rankings, and you say you’ve been surfing for a couple years. We understand you have announced your intent to run for SLSA Director this term. What would you bring as a director and why are you running?
SZ: Fresh ideas. I feel I would listen to the surfers in general and work to simplify many things and help open up new avenues for the competitve surfing and also help make it all more fun. I am running because I feel that going back to the roots of the sport and helping to keep things simple would help increase the fun and popularity of the sport.

SW: What areas of improvement do you currently see?
SZ: I see ongoing improvement in the competitions. The popularity has increased also.

SW: What do you see as the top issues and what would be your first priority?
SZ: Top priority is more interaction in the non-surfing support for various events. More venues and some sort of large collaboration among the over 100 surf venues that exist in SL.

SW: Why should you be elected over any other candidates?
SZ: This truly is a silly question. All the candidate are capabale, intelligent and have a passion for surfing. We all have different ideas and views. My views don't matter, what matters is serving the surfing population represented by the SLSA and increasing the reach of the organization in general. If you must pick something it is because I have a cute butt...
SW:  Your views do matter, that's the whole purpose of this questionnaire - to give the voting members some idea of who you are and where you stand.  Your butt, however, does not matter.

SW: What were you most dissatisfied with as an SLSA member in the past season?
SZ: Lack of a lower league that is competetive, but is not ELITE. I feel that there should be multiple leagues. And the logistics on that are something to be determined later.

SW: Give us a brief statement or opinion on some of the major issues the SLSA faced in 2009 Season 1 and possible issues moving into Season 2:

International Surfing Challenge
---great idea, would enjoying seeing other leagues

Pulling of the Thor Bishop Award
--Why pull it? Recognition and awards are inportant. Make more awards

The issue of "realistic" surfing vs. "gaming"
---realistic? hard to make it realistic when some people are surfing with net books and others are surfing with powerful desktops....it is fun, socializing and entertaining. The surf events I have been to in rl are all of those but the SL surfing will only be as 'real' as a virtual world will allow.

The DQ decision
--no opinion

The new organizations, competitions, boards and waves
----More, More, More and did I say more?
