Realistic Beauty at Island Sea Soul

Submitted by Opal Rivers

Palma de Majorca (200, 210, 24) - Adult - Island Sea Soul - Home of SurfCrazy!

When you first arrive at Island Sea Soul, the sim feels like an authentic California surf beach.  The name Island Sea Soul and the sim comes from three people who collaborated to create this beautiful island sim.  Countess "Connie" Decosta, Mick Lunasea and JT Castaneda are the masterminds of Island Sea Soul.  The name is derived from Island Sea Dreams (ISD), Surfcrazy, and Soul Wave (Movie & photography).  Their love of surfing and the ocean has inspired a place where the rain forest meets the ocean, much like Countess' real life.

They began the creation with the waves.  After all, the sim slogan does say, Home of the Surf Crazy.  This is an excellent description for the whopping 6 running waves on this beach, giving the surf a crazy ride.  When asked how long it took to create this exquisite island, Countess explained that JT has the design eye and photography skills.  The Countess has the eye for colors, brightness, designing and building in SL (Second Life).  The construction did not take too long.  After all, it doesn’t take too long to make something beautiful when you use your heart, she said.  As the collaborative group meet, they continue to work on the finer details.  The Countess feels that, the best views on the sim are on top of the hill on the far end of the sim (149,14,44).  They are quite spectacular.

The landing point is on the deck of a surf shack like no other.  The cabin seems empty until you notice the walls are lined with copious amounts of surfing information.  It is also the home of Global Surf Treaty Surfing Lessons.  Imagine receiving personal SL surfing lessons with a pro surfer, like Mick, JT or Countess.  This surf school is a great resource for anyone wanting to improve their surfing skills or considering emerging as a top surfer in SL.  Island Sea Soul boasts their own surfing association called Island Sea Soul Community (ISSC).  The association (group) is designed for the promotion and teaching of the sport of surfing.  Additionally, there is an in-world magazine the Countess writes for the community members.  The human-interest stories are inspired by camp fire tales and events of interest in the surfing community.

Just around the corner is the Country Soul One Love Surfboard Factory owned by Mick Lunasea.  This store is an awesome shop to come pick out a surfboard created by a real-life surfer or have a quality custom surfboard created to suit your personal style and taste by Mick himself [editor's note:  See More About Surfboards:  Mick Lunasea posted on May 11, 2017].  Mick also sells a wide array of products on the SL Marketplace.  Visit his store, Mick’s treasures. Just up the ramp is the Island Sea Dreams mesh jewelry shop owned by Countess DecostaThere are lovely sparkles here, ladies.

The cave spelunking here is also challenging.  The entrance is clearly marked on the separate island (197,231,21).  There is a maze of caves and secret passages the can get you turned around in circles.  Make sure you approach this cave with proper gear, you may need some diving gear or the ability to hold your breath for a long time and enough food and water, just in case you get lost.  It’s a wonderful world to explore.  Just saying there are sparkles here, too, ladies.  There is a spectacular tropical hike at the end of the journey.

Amagansett and Sagaponack, Shagwong Cove Resort

Amagansett (75, 245, 21) - Adult - Amagansett at Shagwong Cove Resort

Cool ocean breezes, tropical foliage, the sounds of gulls and ocean, the birds, the waves, the waterfalls in the distance.  Everything you would expect in a Second Life (SL) surfing sim and more. I think there may be a dolphin breaching.  My toes in the sand, feeling the salty fresh spray on my ankles, I dodge a huge sea turtle crawling on shore to it's nesting place.

There are two sims here, Amagansett with it's ocean waves, primarily surfing and cottages, and Sagaponack with it's waterways.  Shagwong Cove Resort covers both sims and they are hoping to add a 3rd.  Beach rentals are available with seven cottages for rent, "All sizes, all furnished, all amazing", according to Diamonte Thomas.  Interested people can check out the cottages.  The info board always has current status.

Diamonte owns the sim, along with his family.  While he confesses to be a beach bum, he says his family loves surfing and that's how he got into creating a surfing sim.  They want to create a place that felt "beautiful, peaceful, inviting, interesting."  It opened to the public the beginning of February 2017.  His partner, Amari Di Ricchezi Thomas, and another member of his family, Aziza Mendominezu, were in charge of design and did all the landscaping and sim work.  Diamonte has been researching what surfers need by talking to as many surfers as possible, joining associations, reading SurfWatch, and hanging out at other sims to see what works.  He says he will be adding at least two more kinds of waves and one more surfboard choice based on recommendations, along with being able to rez your own board.

Opal Rivers was able to catch some waves and give her take on the conditions:  "The surf supports lots of realistic shore movement.  The gulls and crabs on the beach also give you the feeling of being on the best beach vacation ever.  The surf waves are located on a long and spacious beach that supports several waves.  Although the rez time is extended here, I found that the surfing allows for a smooth lag free ride. The multiple waves allows you to skip from wave to wave using the whole surf area for a great ride."  Nude surfing is allowed.

Nestled among the waterfalls, sunken forest, cliffs, flamingos, deep sea cove, pelicans, VW van campsite, hammocks, cozy spots, hot tubs, docks, community centers, and residences are boat rides, surfing waves, games, tiger dances, zip lines and much more.  There is too much going on to list, and I would not cheat you of discovery by naming everything this resort has to offer.  I would just urge you to come explore - plan on spending at least a day.  Come alone, bring your special someone or bring your group - there are a variety of locations and activities and half the fun is the surprised delight of an unexpected discovery! You won't be disappointed here!

More About Surfboards: Mick Lunasea

Submitted by Opal Rivers

Recently I was able to speak with Mick Lunasea about his surf shop and boards.  He is long-time resident and creator in Second Life (SL), who kindly answered some of the questions I had regarding SL surfboards.  Mick is a surfboard creator who owns Country Soul One Love Surfboard Factory.  The shop has one of a kind surfboards that you can purchase or place a special order. This is a fabulous and rare opportunity to own your own custom surf board.   This shop is located on Island Sea Soul (200,210,24).   Mick's also has stores on the SL Marketplace at a store called Mick's Treasures.  This store is a must visit for unique items.
As we know from previous SurfWatch stories, the first Second Life (SL) surfboards were made of oval prims.  Today’s surfboards are dynamic, with a focus on realism.  It was Mick who pointed out to me that when you consider that a surfboard is a vehicle, the object becomes more complex.  There can be up to 32 objects linked to the surfboard and are recognized SL physics.   In terms of SL, in a builders world, how an item reacts (the physics) while in the SL world, is a primary concern.   In general, today’s SL surfboards use a variety of prims with a mesh hull.  Mick also made an interesting point when he stated that a surf wave has many different ways to push a surfboard, and the way the board is crafted and scripted affects the performance of the surfboard while being pushed on the wave.  Even the fins on the boards have the potential of creating drag on the surfboard if they are too great in depth.  It was surprising the details, time, and efforts used to create a surfboard that can withstand the strength of a Maverick wave.

Now that the surfboards are created, we need a scripter and an animator.  Scripters for surfboards are difficult to find as they are a rare breed.  Mick told me he was fortunate enough to own the rights to use no modify beta scripts from one of the few SL scripters and animators.  Therefore, Mick creates one of a kind, limited creations surfboards and can load them with the beta scripts.

Mick, who is a real-life surfboard creator and is still going strong in RL (real life) and SL, is always creating one of a kind creations for us to enjoy.  When asked what his inspiration is, he states, “Meeting people, creating personalized custom artwork for their deck and bottom. The better it looks inspires you to ride better. I enjoy creating one of a kind surfboards and tribute surfboards. My factory is buy and take, there isn't unlimited numbers of them available. Just one.”

It's almost Summer and shops are beginning to release bikinis.  I shopped at "Uber"
and found this perfect bikini called the LEFFE  by Erratic.  You can purchase a single or a FATPACK which has 12 colors/designs (plus 4 bonus designs) to choose from.  I thought the FATPACK was a good buy at L$2999.  Erratic is known for their perfect fit and design elements.  By the way UBER has several other bikini releases but this was my favorite.  So stop by Uber if you can and have a look.  If you miss Uber I'm sure you can pick up this bikini at the Erratic shop once Uber is over.
