20 Questions: Surf Perspective - Aurora Jacks

Submitted by Zelda Zimberman

20 Questions: Surf Perspective is part of a continuing series SurfWatch will be running as participants respond to Zelda's questionaire.

1. Name:
 Aurora Jacks

2. Team:
Lone surfer but owns The Piranhas

3. Surfing Since:
2007

4. Favorite Board and why?:
Fakt Black knight, because the ride is sweet on the maverick and I love Doxx's graphics.

5. Favorite Wave and why?:
The maverick any size, the 100m because it's a great long ride and you have plenty of room to "play" on it and the maverick 30m because it's quick and short and you have to really concentrate and its tricky to stay on it, a bit of a challenge.

6. How did you come across surfing on SL and what was your first initial reaction to it?:
I used to surf when I was younger in rl. I love the beach and ran a Caribbean estate. We heard there was surfing so I went and found the boards and saw the epic wave at another sim and was like "OMG I have to do this!!!!!". So I researched it a bit and entered my first comp at Chi. We decided to buy an epic and host a comp at our sim and were hooked!

7. Are you involved in the SLSA (second life surfing association) in any way? (competitions, events, etc.):
I have friends that are. :)

8. What are your thoughts or opinions on the direction on the SLSA from 2012 and beyond?:
I hope that things are peaceful and fun!

9. What do/did you find positive and negative about it?:
Well I have not been involved in the SLSA for quite a while now, but one negative thing I can say is the forums can be horrible. Advice, stay out of the forums unless you are signing up for a comp. Positive side, you make some amazing friends and it's fun to hang out with them at comps and beyond.
How would you like to see it improve more?:
N/A

10. Do you compete in any surfing competitions SLSA or non?:
No, I surf on my own hitting the waves late at night to chill, hitting the beaches of sl, or my own Braata Beach.

11. What do/did you find gratifying and dissatisfying about competitions?:
When I surfed they were all in one day and got to be too long. And it seemed to me back then the judges were a bit for their friends and some things didnt seem fair, but it was different than what I hear now. Gratifying, hanging with my friends, listening to tunes, and watching people pull off their tricks!

12. How do you feel about the SLSA using non SSI boards for competitions? (ex; HP5, LSD, Action):
I think they should, and always should have.

13. If you are currently inactively involved in competitions (surfing, judging, etc.) what was the reason for leaving? Would you want to come back and participate? Please explain your answer:
Personal reasons, and back then there was tons of drama with some of the people and some dirty deeds going on, and I didn't want it anymore. Would I come back? I don't know, I have been asked by many to open up my team to compete again. FollowingWaves Sirbu still surfs under the team name.

14. What are your thoughts on the team dynamics? Is there a team you particularly like? Why?:
I think a little competition between teams is fun! And I have always had a heart for Montego, SurfCrazy, and back in the day Da Hui. Just all around really nice people.

15. Is there anyone on here that particularly had an impact when it came to surfing, mentoring, and overall being a role model for you? Who and why? Please explain your answer:
Colleen Brennan. She is always always always so positive and so sweet and knows so much and is always willing to share. And also a girl named Bonheur Chenuex,  she was a great person and a good friend and she taught me tons!

16. What was your favorite moment or memory on surfing here?:
I once placed 4th in a comp, and we once threw a huge competition on our sims. We had 3 sims going stands, surf sim and a sim for live concert of Mankind, total count with everyone at one time was 110 people on the sims, and it was so fun!!!! Huge party and I think a lot of people really enjoyed it!

17. Is there anyone you know or knew that isn't active as much in surfing and would like to see come back? Who and why?:
Hmmm that's tough, Robin Mapp, he was such a fair director and such a great guy. I haven't spoken to him in a while but him and his wife Monq are fabulous people and fair and incredible surfers!

18. Many people have strong opinions when it comes to SL surfing and RL surfing. What is your take on the comparison?:
Um there is none, this is like video game fun. Rl surfing is real and it's a work out and can be tough. This is knowing what to tap on your keyboard, and wearing a small av. Which people used to do, which I thought was sort of lame. They would have their surf av because they could go faster and weighed less. And their regular av so I sort of thought that was a negative. I mean it's all in fun. Just surf yourself.

19. Do you have any advice for new SL surfers on here?:
Just have fun and enjoy yourself and if you hear or see drama just smile and wave and don't get involved. Just have fun!!! You will meet great people and make some long time friends.

20. Any other thoughts?:
Off the wave, there is no competition, so come together and enjoy each other on whatever beach you love. Because we all love the same thing, water, waves and sand and maybe a corona while tapping those keys. \o/

Submitted by Zelda Zimberman

20 Questions: Surf Perspective is part of a continuing series SurfWatch will be running as participants respond to Zelda's questionaire.
1.  Name:
Damiana Babcock

2. Team:
MONTEGO

3. Surfing Since:
Oh wow...um...2010?

4. Favorite Board and why?:
SSI Shortboard

5. Favorite Wave and why?:
Yes :)

6. How did you come across surfing on SL and what was your first initial reaction to it?:
Sunny was surfing and I was like "heck yes!" then I hopped on the wave and went right off the other side. So naturally I thought "...sweeeeet"

7. Are you involved in the SLSA (second life surfing association) in any way? (competitions, events, etc.):
I compete, yes.

8. What are your thoughts or opinions on the direction on the SLSA from 2012 and beyond?:
I thought things went pretty smoothly.

9. What do/did you find positive and negative about it?:
Positive, the surfing. Negative, the drama.

How would you like to see it improve more?:
No drama, more people doing, less gum bumping.

10. Do you compete in any surfing competitions SLSA or non?:
Yep.

11. What do/did you find gratifying and dissatisfying about  competitions?:
Gratifying, surfing. Dissatisfying, lag.

12. How do you feel about the SLSA using non SSI boards for competitions? (ex; HP5, LSD, Action):
I think that's just swell.

13. If you are currently inactively involved in competitions (surfing, judging, etc.) what was the reason for leaving? Would you want to come back and participate? Please explain your answer:

14. What are your thoughts on the team dynamics? Is there a team you particularly like? Why?:
Huh? Yes, Team Montego, because they ROCK.

Yep, Sunny Bunny. She taught me how to surf. And she's awesome.

16. What was your favorite moment or memory on surfing here?:
My first surf comp.

17. Is there anyone you know or knew that isn't active as much in surfing and would like to see come back? Who and why?:
Hmmm, nope.

18. Many people have strong opinions when it comes to SL surfing and RL surfing. What is your take on the comparison?:
There really isn't one. I don't feel the need to rag on people for doing something in game vs. RL. If I did, I'd be one busy hater what with the football, baseball, golf, skating, and [insert game types here] video games around. Yet, I realize that hitting a button and swinging a bat aren't really the same. Doesn't matter, both fun.

19. Do you have any advice for new SL surfers on here?:
Yes, love the game, have fun, ignore those who enjoy drama, and pass what you learn to others.

20. Any other thoughts?:
Nope. XD

Boho Beachwear Review Series - 4 of 4

submitted by Kantbe Thursday

The last in our SurfWatch series on Boho beachwear is one of the "boho skirt" including the Swanky Crystal Bronze triple bangle designed by Taylor (digitaltaylor) of Swanky and L&N Designs

The natural tones of this dress are featured next to the colorful Tiki on the beaches of the well known Ocean Shores surfing sim.

For those special parties on those hot nights, something a little different with the Swanky Tahiti skirt and white bandeau top might be in order.  Shown here at Chi's Girls on Film dance club.

Swanky Designs is known for wonderfully sexy beachwear for men and women alike.  In addition to their in world store, more can be seen here on their website.

Give Us Your Opinion

While there have been many other virtual world blogs in the course of the last 5 years, SurfWatch has been consistent with reporting on the surf and beach communities initially just in Second Life (SL) since 2008 and, as more grids become available, SurfWatch has been reporting on surf and beach through out the virtual worlds.

Our staff work tirelessly to promote surfing with no compensation (other than my eternal gratitude!).  They send scores, photos and videos after a grueling day of competition; they research, they investigate, they spend their own money on photos and considerable time on coming up with questionaires, story lines, product comparisons, updates to surf sim lists, etc.

Our goal has always been to promote surfing and beaches in all virtual worlds, to share the action, the fun, the personalities, the fashion, the trends, and the news effecting the community.  We are interested in whether you believe SurfWatch is still a viable communication option in a time when so many other blogs, sites, and links are available.

Please take a moment to let us know your thoughts in the comments section on whether SurfWatch is providing a valuable service to the virtual world surfing and beach community.

Thank you for your input!

Changes to SLSA Competition Event Rules

The Second Life Surfing Association (SLSA) has updated and revised the event rules for the Open and Pro competitions. A complete copy of the event rules can be found on the forum.

Changes for the Open competition are that when there are 15 or more surfers registered for the event, they will surf in 5 heats. The winner of each heat will advance to the Pro round. The next 5 highest scoring surfers will also advance, rounding out the 10 who move on.

Changing for the Pro competition is the way that surfers will advance to the final heats. The winner of each heat will advance to the semi-final, as well as the next 6 top scoring surfers who did not win their heat (equalling 12 surfers in the semi-finals). If there is a tie for 1st in the preliminary heat, both surfers advance. If there is a tie for the final position in the semi-finals, a surf-off will be held to determine who advances. In this case each surfer takes one wave at a time until one of the surfers has the higher score. To advance into the final heat, the winner of each semi-final will move up. The remaining surfers in the finals will be those with the top 3 scores that did not win their heat (so 6 surfers total). In the event of ties in the semi-finals, the same rules as above apply.

I encourage you to visit the forum and read the complete event rules.

20 Questions: Surf Perspective - Abel Halderman

Submitted by Zelda Zimberman

20 Questions: Surf Perspective is part of a continuing series SurfWatch will be running as participants respond to Zelda's questionaire.

1. Name:
Abel Halderman
2. Team:
No team

3. Surfing Since:
2007

4. Favorite Board and why?:
SSi custom shortboard - allows a very smooth style but at the same time it's very sensitive in turns.

5. Favorite Wave and why?:
SSi Cortez - just love the way it looks. Also it seems it's a lucky wave for me in the comps ;-)

6. How did you come across surfing on SL and what was your first initial reaction to it?:
When I think about it... I was supposed to be a gallery owner ;p I started surfing by accident really. First impression I had was... wow... exciting! Wait, did I fall off?

7. Are you involved in the SLSA (second life surfing association) in any way? (competitions, events, etc.):
I compete in the SLSA contests. Also used to help with organizing them and judged.

8. What are your thoughts or opinions on the direction on the SLSA from 2012 and beyond?:
The SLSA will still be active, maybe it will change a bit, but generally there will always be people around that share the same passion for competitions and standing up for a challenge. I think the SLSA will keep evolving and improving, too.

9. What do/did you find positive and negative about it?:
I've spent a lot of time of my SL being either a SLSA director or helping with comps. From my perspective it is a great thing that new people are taking over, new things are happening, new surfers are doing great in comps. It's a whole new generation of surfers now, and it's a great thing. It means that the idea the founders had when they created the association is universal and it communicates well. It means it will keep running.
New directors will learn and pass the skills and knowledge to the next ones. I see that many standards of organization my generation worked are still up-to-date and used.

How would you like to see it improve more?:
One thing I will always ask the SLSA to do, or the directors to be precise, would be "communicate, communicate, communicate" ;-) so even people that never participated in anything SLSA-related or are not the members of the SLSA forum can understand what's currently going on and what the SLSA is about. Communicate the love for surfing, too, by actively organizing classes, new surfers events including mini-comps etc.

10. Do you compete in any surfing competitions SLSA or non?:
I have competed this past season in every SLSA competition. Generally I've competed since 2008.

11. What do/did you find gratifying and dissatisfying about competitions?:
I like the thrill. I hate the wait... but that's really beyond anyone's control.

12. How do you feel about the SLSA using non SSI boards for competitions? (ex; HP5, LSD, Action):
Sure, why not. As long as it's surfing, not simboarding.

13. If you are currently inactively involved in competitions (surfing, judging, etc.) what was the reason for leaving? Would you want to come back and participate? Please explain your answer:
N/A

14. What are your thoughts on the team dynamics?  Is there a team you particularly like? Why?:
I'm not a member of any team, and I really don't have favorites. If I had to pick, I'd choose small teams as favorites. They seem to be more familily-like groups. I also kind of miss the Vibrations team. They used to have 6-7 people in each competition. I believe they won one or two seasons, too.

15. Is there anyone on here that particularly had an impact when it came to surfing, mentoring, and overall being a role model for you? Who and why? Please explain your answer:
Colleen Brennan and Milo Voss were the ones that really got me into competing and supported me all the way.

16. What was your favorite moment or memory on surfing here?:
Surfing pipes at Black River Harbor. Lots of friends, lots of laughs.

17. Is there anyone you know or knew that isn't active as much in surfing and would like to see come back? Who and why?:
Can I say all of the people that are not active? ;p Seriously tho, I'd like to see friends back, like Milo Voss or Ritch Goalpost competing again. Some others, too. Also there is a lot of skilled and talented surfers that would make the whole competition part even more interesting if they came back.

18. Many people have strong opinions when it comes to SL surfing and RL surfing. What is your take on the comparison?:
Well... SL surfing is in SL, RL surfing is in RL. There is no comparison. I suck at RL surfing, yet I'm an okay surfer in SL. In SL you surf when sitting in your chair. In RL it requires a lot more effort and skills. So no, no comparison. If I had to compare tho, or express my expectations towards the SL surfing, I'd say: make it look real.

19. Do you have any advice for new SL surfers on here?:
Learn from other people, find your own style,  and most of all enjoy your ride.

20. Any other thoughts?:
Plently ;-)

Benoir Clarification to Monkey Cove Update

submitted by Kantbe Thursday

In response to the earlier post, "Monkey Cove Update:  LSD Servers Temporarily Unavailable" (see reprinted below), Revlon Benoir would like to add:

"The Monkey Cove Partnership did not work out as planned and the project has closed.  In deference to a request by the SLSA and Solace Beach, I chose not to bring back the commercial project San Diego Port.  The SIMs Monkey Paw and Monkey Cove have been renamed and restored back to the original private residential estate Enchanted Shores/Enchanted Reef.  Free residential housing and shops are no longer available, however, the Teahupoo Wave, HP5, SSL and Action vendors are still running and open to the public.  The Public Pathfinder Beta SIM Monkey Tail has been abandoned and is not longer available to SIM owners to test their waves in a Pathfinder environment.  I was unaware that the LSD Servers were located at Monkey Paw.  They are welcome at Enchanted Shores indefinitely."

Original Post:
Monkey Cove Update:  LSD Servers Temporarily Unavailable

Plans for the current incarnation of Monkey Cove (Enchanted Reef) will change it into a closed beach only available to group members.  This change, confirmed by Revy ღ (revlon.benoir),  has necessitated Pray 4 Surf and Surf Shop 6 leaving Monkey Cove.

Monkey Cove and San Diego Port

According to Rayzza Rubble, owner of Pray 4 Surf, this will temporarily shut down the Luscious Starship Design (LSD) servers. The servers will be unavailable until further notice.

20 Questions: Surf Perspective - Markfoo Waverider

Submitted by Zelda Zimberman

20 Questions: Surf Perspective is part of a continuing series SurfWatch will be running as participants respond to Zelda's questionaire.

1. Name:
MarkFoo Waverider

2. Team:
TaiChi and also Vibrations, Reef Riders, Tsunami (as a guest and it is a great honor)

3. Surfing Since:
I was born.

4. Favorite Board and why?:
HP5 smooth and "realistic" and Sniper radical and powerful.

5. Favorite Wave and why?:
FLuffies !!!!!! if you master on fluffies, I think you can ride any wave.

6. How did you come across surfing on SL and what was your first initial reaction to it?:
I'm a surfer in RL and I met an old past dude named Cipriano. He gave me a board at Majini and..... I was done, addicted. I realized that I could feel my heart pinched like in RL and I never stop surfing, trying to ride the ultimate wave, the perfect wave. I hope I will, one day ! hahahahahahaha

7. Are you involved in the SLSA (second life surfing association) in any way? (competitions, events, etc.):
No. It is a shame. I have been a Marshall sometimes but it is very few.

8. What are your thoughts or opinions on the direction on the SLSA from 2012 and beyond?:  Directors and staff are making an awesome job, giving a lot of time only for us, surfers. They are doing their best with their strength and weaknesses. I took advantage of all their work and I have an endless respect for them.

9. What do/did you find positive and negative about it?
How would you like to see it improve more?:
If you think there is something to improve then move your ass (ooooops sorry) and join the SLSA staff. It is not constructive to discuss from the outside. Too easy. Then, on my side, smooth zipped and paddle ;) winks.

10. Do you compete in any surfing competitions SLSA or non?:
I had that luck to compete in SLSA, ABSSL,... I have shared unforgivable and unique moments with all my dudes. I have less trophies than awesome souvenirs. I'm very proud of that.

11. What do/did you find gratifying and dissatisfying about  competitions?:
Does anybody know a competitor who loves to lose ? hahahahaha but it happens. Often, I find gratifying to be in the line up with all my dudes and after. I do my best to feel in peace. No fears, no expectations. Surfing and competitions is a very tricky subject. The point is that your only opponent is yourself and your only friend is the wave.... difficult hum? Being the best is very temporary and subjective. If you feel angry against yourself or anything when you lose, you would better stop competing... for the safety of your soul.

12. How do you feel about the SLSA using non SSI boards for competitions? (ex; HP5, LSD, Action):
Egality of chance. That's the key, right ? Or freedom ? I think the most important is to have a fair and known way of judging and scoring. Since then, you can use any board. I hope and trust that judges are clever and smart. If your surfing gives a great feeling of harmony and passion then you will be recognized as a surfer. You can try to "lock" the sytem with specific rules but you cannot control custom boards or powerful computers and connections againt lag. Then , I think, we should judge the feeling, the harmony, the control and agility. If one surfer makes me dream, he/she is definitely the best .....

13. If you are currently inactively involved in competitions (surfing, judging, etc.) what was the reason for leaving? Would you want to come back and participate? Please explain your answer:
Personal reasons. If I can and if the community allows me, I would love to come back and have tons of fun.

14. What are your thoughts on the team dynamics?
Is there a team you particularly like? Why?:
I have a deep respect for all teams. I think it is important to distinguish surfers and teams. A great team is always the synergy of individuals and a leader (the captain). No matter if the individuals are the "best". A team has a soul which is unique and define the behavior of its' surfers. As far as I can remember, legendary teams never die. Vibers, Reef Riders, Tsunami, TaiChi for example.

15. Is there anyone on here that particularly had an impact when it came to surfing, mentoring, and overall being a role model for you? Who and why? Please explain your answer:
wow .... honestly, every single surfer impact my surfing. I'm a permanent beginner. well, I could mention :  Cip, Kimmy, Wil , Bonheur, Wicka, Buffy, Bobbi, VW, Lynda, CK, Colleen, Kim, Robbin, Dev, Desirae, Quench, Abel, Sally, Bodhi, Arjuna, Jordan, Kristen, Lacy, Vel, Jac, Triston, Sunrize, Tauri, ONeill, Lala, Cloudy, Seb, Heather, Koh, Rani, Cymi, Countess, Desne, Leogarto, Dixon, Rick, ..... Anyway, the last real Mark Foo remanes my model. I hope I deserve to use his name with humility.

16. What was your favorite moment or memory on surfing here?:
My next wave !! woooooooot

17. Is there anyone you know or knew that isn't active as much in surfing and would like to see come back? Who and why?:
Kimmy and Bonheur

18. Many people have strong opinions when it comes to SL surfing and RL surfing. What is your take on the comparison?:
Hahahahaaha, sorry I don't understand the question! You mean, is there any comparison between RL and SL? Hahahahaha I'm afraid the answer is in the question. I think the correct question is: do you love surfing? Do you feel the adrenaline when you drop into the pipe? Are you happy and in peace and harmony? Hhahhaha I am surfing RL every day and SL. I never had a thought for this naive question. We are surfing for a higher purpose. I'm very sad if there is any conflict and strong opinions on this non-subject. I wish everyone enjoy surfing and carry the soul of surfing RL or SL, no matter where.

19. Do you have any advice for new SL surfers on here?:
Stay humble and stay a new surfer for life. Respect the ones who surfed before you and help the ones who will surf after you.

20. Any other thoughts?:
Yes: Sorry for my poor English. Eddie would go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Second Life: Bound to Excite Surf Beach!!

I have just left the most stunning surf SIM, Bound to Excite is new on our horizon but promises to be a destination you will be, visiting frequently. Vapor Paragorn, manager at Bound to Excite tells me the owners Bill Baramm and Aislyn Darcy installed the Sunset 40 by Leogarto Burt and have plans in future to install perhaps other waves too as the interest grows.

When you visit what strikes you first is the ambiance, the landscaping is spectacular with great places to sit and chat, I even saw a romantic dining area.
When new surf SIMS come to life we all must embrace each and every one and help give it life by supporting. This is one little jewel that I know you will love to come hang and catch a few waves.
Thank you very much Vapor for introducing me to Bound to Excite surf beach, I will be by again very soon.

Loaner Boards on The Beach!!

At first Kayaker Magic and I thought by placing loaner boards on the beach as loaners it may confuse surfers coming directly from SL surfing as this board is much different.  After discussing again we decided that a sign is all that's needed with few quick tips to get you started.  The board itself has a Help info card too for more detail.  The sign and board are now on the beach, we invite you to come anytime.

20 Questions: Surf Perspective - Sally LaSalle

Submitted by Zelda Zimberman

20 Questions: Surf Perspective is part of a continuing series SurfWatch will be running as participants respond to Zelda's questionaire.

1. Name:
Sally LaSalle

2. Team:
Tai Chi Zen

3. Surfing Since:
March 2007

4. Favorite Board and why?:
It Changes and depends on the wave too. In general I like my SSi Mod board, it's tweakable to suit the wave I'm on. I really grew to love the HP5 board for the recent comp. I also think LSD boards can be fun too if they are configured well. :)

5. Favorite Wave and why?:
Too many to choose, have a soft spot for fluffies, they really are a challenge and very difficult to surf compared to the big waves. Recently been checking out Maoli waves then Nalu Evolution is pretty damn cool !!

6. How did you come across surfing on SL and what was your first initial reaction to it?:
Seb and Heather were looking for sims to put their waves on and so I offered Chi. Basically that's how it all got started way back when. :)

7. Are you involved in the SLSA (second life surfing association) in any way? (competitions, events, etc.):
Involved fairly deeply :), surfing , officiating , training, hosting and making gizmos and gadgets. :)

8. What are your thoughts or opinions on the direction on the SLSA from 2012 and beyond?:
I think that the SLSA is making an important evolution into new wave and board types. I think this adds to the challenge for surfers, to master different formats, it adds to the fun with new innovations to try out, it brings people in from different backgrounds and communities and hopefully is a strongly unifying step in the right direction.

9. What do/did you find positive and negative about it?:
I think that it was a great season. I think the move to Solace Dreams and the programs put in place to help self fund was important. We have attracted a lot of new members and comp surfers as a result of that move.  Similarly we had people come over from the ABSSL and compete as a result of the HP5 based comp. I think this was a real positive move to break down barriers and bring more people into the association making it richer with new people with new ideas.

How would you like to see it improve more?:
I think we need to continue the reach out to the the broader SL community, more people, makes for a richer and funner experience. :)

10. Do you compete in any surfing competitions SLSA or non?:
I compete in SLSA comps, in the past i have competed in ASA, ABSSL, VSA and PCX comps :)

11. What do/did you find gratifying and dissatisfying about competitions?:
Have always seen comps as a fun activity, its always fascinating how each competition evolves with a mix of old and new surfers making good and a good mix of luck along with raw skill.

12. How do you feel about the SLSA using non SSI boards for competitions? (ex; HP5, LSD, Action):
I Think the HP5 comp was fantastic. I think it opened a lot of people up to the idea that there is more than one way of experiencing surfing in SL, it was fun and challenging.  I scheduled an LSD comp for Tai but unfortunately couldn't reach Luscious, but certainly would love to do that.

13. If you are currently inactively involved in competitions (surfing, judging, etc.) what was the reason for leaving? Would you want to come back and participate? Please explain your answer:
--- I have never left, though I must say I have contemplated it occasionally, when people take things too seriously, when people are pushing their own agendas for personal profit and not to the benefit of the community, when people are putting in their own time and resources for the benefit of others are attacked and made to feel bad,  those things are a turn off... But I have to say those are pretty rare overall and the people involved in surfing today are all people that I call friends. :)

14. What are your thoughts on the team dynamics?: Is there a team you particularly like? Why?:
I'm not that fussed about teams, provided that rivalry doesn't become negative and damaging they are okay. But even though I run a team, to me it's a way to bring together a disparate group of people with different backgrounds that can each contribute something to the team, and from which they have a base from which to develop as individuals.

15. Is there anyone on here that particularly had an impact when it came to surfing, mentoring, and overall being a role model for you? Who and why? Please explain your answer:
For me it's Bobbi Laval, an incredibly skilled surfer, having surfed and finished in the top ten in every season. She is an inspiration in the sense of showing what it takes to succeed (lots n lots of practice, a huge dollop of curiosity and a good dash of aptitude), she is also a person that never hesitates to help new surfers regardless of team or background. A real and true sportsperson. I would also have to say that Flynn Sheridan  was a very important person to me, a guy with real surfers soul.

16. What was your favorite moment or memory on surfing here?:
Too many to choose. :)

17. Is there anyone you know or knew that isn't active as much in surfing and would like to see come back? Who and why?:
I was glad to see Flynn come to the last comp, would love to see some of the legends like TK, Ritch, Craig, Devi pop back in. :)

18. Many people have strong opinions when it comes to SL surfing and RL surfing. What is your take on the comparison?:
I recently watched a RL comp, which was really awesome to see how that is evolving and increasing its technical difficulty too. One of the best websites for RL is. http://www.surfline.com/surflinetv/trick-tips, where they show what is possible and what is being done today.  RL surfers seem to always be striving to invent the next most radical move and I think if they were in SL, they would be trying to do that here too.

19. Do you have any advice for new SL surfers on here?:
Get out there and enjoy the experience of catching a wave and riding it.  Start simple and add new things bit by bit. :) Say hi to every surfer you see.  And be yourself.

20. Any other thoughts?:
Just would like to shout out to all the surf groups everywhere, there are different groups that are emphasizing different things and I say more strength to you all !! :) ... Go Surfing !! :)
