Historic SurfJam 17!

submitted by Abel Halderman

The Vibrations Surf Aliance (VSA) and Tsunami Surf are proud to announce the historic SurfJam 17!

First time in the VSA SurfJam's history, the competition will be held outside the Vibers land, at Tsunami Beach. This is a great moment: for the Tsunamis, because our friends Vibers put enough trust in us to let us host the awesome event; and because, at this point, we have confirmed that the new rocking SSi Cortes wave will be there.

Currently there is a Cortes wave to practice at Tuli (, and soon there will be one at Tsunami Beach, too (

Boards allowed in this competition are: SSi (Goodliffe/Saramago made) 5.1, 5.2, 6,4, HP, Action. No mod boards are allowed.

The competition will take place on Saturday, June 5, and start at noon SLT.

In order to REGISTER for the event, please send a notecard stating your will to participate to: VW Sands, Abel Halderman and/or Colleen Brennan.

Contact us if you have any questions.

Monkey Cove 2nd Annual Surfboard Design Contest!

submitted by Syx Toshi

This is the second year of the best Surfboard Design Contest in all of Second Life (SL). Unlike other contests, this is only open to amateur designers, no professionals allowed. The entries will be judged by professional SL surfboard designers.  They will be looking to identify SL’s next great talent.

Last year's winner, Dee Waverider, went on to SSi and created one of the most extensive board lines available today. Dee will also be coming back this year as a judge. Each judge has their own surfboard line and knows what it takes to be a successful designer.

First Prize - L$7,000
Second Prize - L$2,000
Third Prize - L$1,000

Must be an amateur, must not have had a design sold through SSI, HP, Action or any other surfboard manufacturer.  Contact Syx Toshi for more information.

Surf for a Cure!

Last year Socks Clawtooth introduced the surf community to the Surf Relay and it was a HUGE success and so much fun. Well, we are doing it again! Riders for a Cure will be hosting this 12 hour event on July 10. Start time is 9 AM SL time til 9 PM SL time...or till the cows come home.

Quoted from Socks SW article of May 29,2009:
Surf for Life raised 39,844L for the American Cancer Society in DONATIONS on the route. To put this in perspective, it translates to $153.23 US funds in 12 hours of surfing in pure donations. In addition, the sims and riders donated to ride and host the torch, bringing the total raised to a little over 50,000L, over $190 US funds.

The goal is to meet or even better BEAT last years numbers!!!

If your sim, team, or group would like to participate, or if you would like to help out in any way, please contact Lissa Pinion to get on the roster. This is 12 hours of surfing, or riding anything for that matter, for a cure!

Until there is a cure, we ride!

Never fear, Bandit is here

Shortly after the reports surfaced that Tsunami had been vandalized by punks, Bandit was quick to the scene to investigate further...

He checked several surf shops...

He checked out a bikini shop or two...

Took a short break for a workout...

Made a new friend...

Then decided to lay low for a while and set up a stake out...

Rest assured, Bandit will find the vandal and bring them to justice!

Licks on the nose,

See me on FaceBook at...

Mari's Mailbag: Second Life Eyes

"A person's thoughts can be ascertained by looking in his or her eyes." The proverb has been traced back in English to 'Regiment of Life' (1545). But the proverb was known much earlier. Cicero (106-43 B.C.) is quoted as saying, 'Ut imago est animi voltus sic indices oculi' (The face is a picture of the mind as the eyes are its interpreter). The Latin proverbs, 'Vultus est index animi' or 'Oculus animi index,' are usually translated as 'The face is the index of the mind.' The French say, 'Les yeux sont le miroir de l'dme (The eyes are the mirror of the soul).

Since we are in Second Life (SL) we cannot truely see ones eyes, we have to believe in the words spoken. Sometimes those words are elaborated upon, embellishing them to make them sound so full of promise. The person behind the avatar can say things with morals or they can decieve, and it's hard to ascertain what's real. I was always one to want to believe in what I am being told, to not doubt a person but to believe in their words. Without having eyes to look into when told certain things, that makes Second Life tricky to say the least. When you tell someone something, make it real. Be honest or don't say it at all. There really isn't any honor in lying, cheating or stealing. It's destructive and hurtful in Real Life (RL) as well as SL.

SLSA Vote on Constitutional Changes

Today is the day for Second Life Surfing Association (SLSA) members to vote on proposed changes to the SLSA Constitution.  Make your voice heard.  Log on to and vote on the changes currently proposed to the SLSA Constitution.

Vandals Target Tsunami

In a brazen act of vandalism, Tsunami's pristine new boardwalk was apparently "tagged".

This is a known gang behavior with what some gangologists believe is territorial marking.

Investigators are examining the evidence for clues to bring the vandals responsible to justice.
